We flew from ATL to Detroit, MI. Then rented a car and made our way up to Eric's home town of Bay City. AKA- the land of incredible 4th of July fireworks. (People legit travel for these things).
To make a successful, as stress free as possible journey through the airport and the air itself, Eric and I did some major teamwork and just decided to go for it. We will never journey or explore if we don't just try it, right? Ellie did awesome, too!! I wore Ellie through the airport, carting the diaper bag on my back, handbag on shoulder, and suitcase in tow. Eric carted the car seat and his suitcase. Eric lead the way for his girls and made sure we were safely getting from point A to B. Once checked in at our gate, sleepy baby Ellie began to get fussy. Eric bought her a cheesy omelette and that warm substance and some milk put her in a good mood for the flight.
We boarded as a family and sat by the window. Ellie loved looking out the window and taking every little thing in. Luckily, there were many children and babies surrounding us on the same flight, so Ellie had little ones to play with and remain entertained. She and an approximately 2 year old boy played peek a boo, together. So sweet! Ellie loved looking at all the lights, people, and action within the airports.
We were curious, and maybe slightly nervous about doing the big Michigan trip with Ellie when we first started planning months ago, but again, we realized, it is not a big deal, and if we plan and prepare and work together, we can make traveling with a little one a successful event. I think it was best to have the attitude of knowing Ellie will not be perfectly happy every second as we are traveling at crazy early hours and taking her off schedule, so prepare for tears. But honestly, so long as she was fed and snuggled, she was a happy little duck! We were well prepared with non-perishable snacks, sippy cups, and diapers. We had a few toys for the plane ride, too. It went much better than I anticipated. We were blessed with efficiency, good timing, and good people surrounding us on that first flight. The second flight was hectic at first, but then Ellie passed out in my arms for all but 20 mins of the entire flight. I napped with her!
If contemplating air travel with your little, just do it. Prepare, don't have expectations, and just do it. I am so so so happy we gave Ellie that experience and I am so glad we took her to Michigan where her other 50% stems from.
