Mommy Moments: Bring on the Books!!

I have been reading to Ellie Clardy Gladden since before she was born. We read nearly her entire library...which if you have seen it, you know is hundreds of books. I want to cultivate in our daughter a love of literature, stories, and character. I want to expand her vocabulary, focus, and interest. I want her to have stories she loves and remembers and desires to share with her potential future children.

Because we read so often with what you can picture a voice full of excitement, gusto, and character, Ellie has really taken a love for books. She points to pictures, and sits and listens..most of the time. She has several books she already wants read over and over.

A few nights ago, I bathed Ellie. She has a book made for even the bath. After draining the tub and wrapping her up like a little baby burrito, we retreated to the nursery to dress for bed. Ellie carried her little book from the tub with her to her room and while I dressed her, she laid there, reading to herself with babbles, voices of all different pitches and tones, and making faces with her eyes and lips to the pictures as she "read." She would laugh at the book, then stop and get serious, examining the pages as if they were the morning paper. I am not sure what was running through her growing mind, but I can tell you she was happily entertained with her little book.

I loved seeing this and became joyfully giddy watching her explore and enjoy reading. Of course, this turned into a game of "chase" before bed. Another precious moment to experience as Ellie's mommy!
