St. Patrick's Day Homeschool Hooplah!

It's the luck of the Irish, boy-o! And we folk are Irish so we celebrated well here on the homestead!

I'm mostly Irish. My husband is Polish and to his knowledge not Irish at all....I really want to do an Ancestry test for us; but, anyway, Ellie is definitely pumping some Irish blood. So what better way to celebrate a bit of our heritage than on St. Patrick's Day?!

First, we prepped for the day ahead of time by reading lots of books both fun and factual.

Then the very day itself arrived and we began the day with a bang! In the middle of the night, our leprechaun who had visited the week prior with special magical leprechaun rocks, returned with lots of sneaky antics! Ellie named our sneaky leprechaun Sally. Sally snuck into Ellie's room in the middle of the night and gave her a "kiss of the Irish!" A little green mustache on Ellie's face! Sally put one on Mommy's face too.....😂 So, when I went to Ellie's room to wake her up for the day, she saw my Irish kiss and said, "What's that on your face?!" And I replied, "What do you mean?! You have something on your face!" She began giggling and grabbed her mouth and then we ran to the mirror and gasped and giggled and Ellie said, "Sally got us! Why?!" I told her Sally was a sneaky Leprechaun! We cleaned our faces and then Ellie put on her beautiful St. Patrick's Day dress.

We opened the door and Whoa!! What's this?! A Trap!! Sally set a trap for ELLIE!! And Sally's little green glitter footprints were all over the house! This made Ellie frustrated because why oh why did Sally have to make her house so messy?! Ellie wanted it swept and vacuumed STAT! She LOVED her trap and went under it and over it over and over again. Green crepe paper. So easy.

Then, Ellie ventured to her bathroom. And my oh my! Saints preserve us! Sally "pottied" in Ellie's potty and it was green!! Scandalous!! Ellie thought it was funny, shocking, and outrageous! "I'm going to flush that green down. I don't like my potty dirty!" 😂😂😂

For breakfast, Ellie had green mixed berry muffins topped with whipped cream and her decorations of Lucky Charm mushrooms. Oh! and Sally also dyed Ellie's milk green....Ellie's face says it all, but nonetheless, she did try it, and loved her green milk!

There was some fun with sensory bins and bowls!

The first sensory bin was green leprechaun slime to catch a leprechaun! Sally was too sneaky for the slime trap however; but I did catch an Ellie!! And there were gold coins in it too of course! Ellie dug them out and then we washed them off in our second sensory bin.

The second sensory bin was super super simple. Green dyed water with black gold pots. We had green and gold coins and also our own American coins for Ellie to play, "sink the pot!" Letting the black pots float on the green water, Ellie slowly filled the pots with the coins to see how many it would take until the pot got too heavy and sunk down below the water. This was great fun for her! She was entertained with discovery in this project for quite a while.

The next sensory bin was shaving cream dyed green and inside the cream were hidden gold coins which Ellie had to search for with her hands. She always loves shaving cream play! Once all coins had been gathered we washed them off and Ellie herself asked to count them together! Yes!

We looked for shamrocks and discussed the symbolism of the three leaves to the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son, The Holy Spirit : 3 in one.

On our nature walk we also went hunting for nature in rainbow colors! This is always so beautiful to piece together! And we get to identify new things we find such as this time we discovered Grape Hyacinths growing wildly! How beautiful!

For dinner we made a traditional Irish dinner of Shepherd's Pie. We made it healthfully using cassava flour and sweet potatoes, my own home grown organic carrots and my homegrown organic tomatoes, mushrooms, lean grass fed organic beef, onions, and minced garlic. The rosemary on top of the chili powder paprika seasoned sweet potato top was just perfect. We savored this meal while listening to Traditional Celtic music and we even all three broke out into an earnest attempt at Irish river dancing. I feel I actually did pretty good...just sayin' with my Irish roots and all...hahaha! I told Eric he needed to be doing the Polka! 😂

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Heart Surgery - Update 2

Time truly is an odd thing. Our time on Earth is short, even if we manage to live 100+ years. We can hardly fathom eternity and the length...
