Silver Bluff Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary - Quail Trail

Near Aiken, SC is the Silver Bluff Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary. It is so beautiful here. It’s a fascinating place for lovers of nature, wildlife, and respite. I took the kids out for a day of exploring and hiking (nature walking really since it’s so flat). There were a few trails to choose from. We chose Quail Trail this time.

Quail Trail is a 3 mile trail through pines along the Savannah River. There are fascinating historical facts posted along the trail. The kids enjoyed crunching pinecones, chasing each other along the way, and carrying bushels of sticks and fronds found on the ground.

Elias did his first big solo hike during this visit. He hiked 2.44 miles of the 3 total. I carried him out for the remainder. He did so so great! Snacks, patience, and making games of it as we went was very helpful.

We enjoyed a pic-nic by the bluffs on the river and so enjoyed the beautiful view, sunshine, and tossing pinecones over the edge to the water. It was a really lovely day together in our beloved South Carolina.
