San Francisco

We passed through San Francisco on the way to our next Cali destination. We drove up the Pacific Coast watching surfers ride the waves in the haze. We ended up having more time on this day because of finishing Sequoia in only one day. I wish we could have predicted this and known the exact date because then we could have secured tickets to Alcatraz but alas, we were not able to make it happen. One day! However, we did on our way through stop to see the Full House house and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I must say I had culture shock to San Francisco. I didn’t realize that part of it in the intercity was SO rough and dirty and honestly scary. It was sad to see and uncomfortable too. I wouldn’t want to ever walk those streets. It’s just so sad to see people living like that and in that situation or place in life. But, like a neatly drawn line of chalk, we turned one street and everything was beautiful and neatly kept and clearly very expensive. It’s crazy how the demographic changed immediately one street over! I’m not a city girl, not even in the cleanest nicest city, but it is always fascinating to see. I suppose when I pictured San Francisco I pictured Full House where it’s all sunny and smiles and rainbows and hugs with sappy music. 😂

Seeing the Full House house (which of course was not where they filmed, just a video shot for opening credits) was so cool! I had a talking Michelle Tanner doll when I was a kid and I’m a proud slinger of the term, “ oh Mylanta!”

Then we saw the Golden Gate Bridge. It was so beautiful over the bay in the foggy mist with sailboats and tugboats and flowers everywhere! We went to Fort Point and walked a little of the Marin headtrail. The wind was intense and it sincerely felt as if I was a kite preparing to be whipped away over the bay. It was very pretty!

On our way to the next destination through San Francisco to Eureka to be among the Redwoods we also stopped at a beautiful winery with excellent wine, atmosphere, and warm sunshine! It was Nelson Family Vineyards and it was excellent! Such a nice happy place. We had dinner at the cutest little wood side restaurant called, “The Chimney Tree,” where not only was the food very good but the scenery was heavenly among the redwoods on a redwood viewing parkway. Their property has a large hollowed out Redwood tree that they put a door on and you could walk inside. It was very neat! A good find by Eric!
