Todd Creek Falls Trail Guide

Y'all. This is the place. It's a recommendation from me for ALL hikers - All ages - All levels!
This is Todd Creek Falls located in Central, SC, just outside of our beloved Clemson. This trail is an out and back and is only .7 mi total! The terrain is mostly sand and dirt. It is a narrow trail in a bit of a valley or meadow. There are many many many blackberry brambles to forage from for a ripe and delicious snack! The trail is relatively flat. Let's discuss the specifics.

1.) Getting There: Again, this is located in Central, SC. Less than 30 minutes from Easley, SC. Online, there is no clear address to be given for GPS. In fact, I read one hiker review that GPS is wrong so I would not advise typing in "Todd Creek Falls," or anything of that sort into your GPS. The SC State Trail page itself suggests the following, and it worked perfectly for us:

Directions:
1.  From Clemson, take SC 133 for 5.2 miles to Brookbend Road (RIGHT).
2.  Follow Brookbend Road for 1.2 miles until you reach the bridge over Todd Creek. Park along side the road at the bridge.

3.  The path at the bridge runs parallel to the creek on the left side of it. Follow the path for 0.3 miles to another small path that turns right and descends fairly steeply for about 30 feet tot he base of the falls.

**So, taking this provided information, I simply typed "Brookbend Road, Central, SC" into the Google Maps GPS, and it took me straight there. I entered/turned on to Brookbend Road on my right as the directions given state. Then, I just drove until I came across a bridge. I pulled over to the right in an open margin on the side of the road just before crossing the bridge. The trail begins on the OTHER side of the road but on the same end of the bridge as you park assuming you don't ever even drive over the bridge.**
(This photo shows the trail head beginning on the left. Very difficult to see until you begin to venture down it. If you can't see it, start from the left side...if you go to the big light colored rock then you have gone too far.)
2.) Hiking the Trail - The trail head is not marked. Look simply for a small narrow trafficked trail to the left side of the bridge. Once you start down it it is evident you are on the right track. Keep going. It's just over a quarter mile in to the falls. The trail has countless blackberry bushes to snack on as you hike. On your right, Todd creek will be flowing quietly. As you proceed on the trail you will come to a small rock bald surface where it appears that the trail has stopped.
(Pictured is Rock Bald. Todd Creek on the right. Play here a bit too on the way down or the way out!)
The small rock bald is open to the creek and is actually a really great place to play and slide on some rocks; however, this is not your destination - but you are so close! Walk over the rocks and you will see where the trail picks back up and continues. Soon, you will hear the roaring of the falls on your right. There are small little cuts off the trail people have made to venture into the creek and to the actual top of the falls. Feel free to safely explore these, just know your final destination is at the base of the falls in a swimming lagoon. Shortly after passing the falls you will see a more obvious trail made down to the bottom. You really can't miss it. It is steep, muddy, no roots or trees to help you with the descent (or climb back up). It is short, and certainly doable, just prepare to stay low as you descend or bring a hiking stick. Nothing daunting or fearsome, Just be aware of that. When you arrive at the bottom, go swim and enjoy your pic-nic! Bring the kid's beach toys and their toy nets! We saw lots of fish! It's a quiet, low trafficked spot on a week day.

This one is really that simple! Enjoy!

Heart Surgery - Update 2

Time truly is an odd thing. Our time on Earth is short, even if we manage to live 100+ years. We can hardly fathom eternity and the length...
